When to visit

Mountain biking is, luckily for all us mad keen bikers, pretty much a year round sport, and here in the Abel Tasman we are blessed with a mild climate and the highest number of sunshine hours in NZ, making for some superb mountain biking weather.

And when those strong westerly winds get up, as they often do in the summer, we can still mountain bike!

Getting here

SELF DRIVE:

From Nelson
Marahau is 67km from Nelson. Take Highway 6 south through Richmond. Continue on Gladstone Road and at the roundabout take the right hand exit onto Appleby Highway (Highway 60). Continue on The Coastal Highway, turning left at Stafford Dr in Mapua and following High Street through Motueka.

From Motueka
Continue north through Motueka towards Riwaka. Turn left at Takaka Hill Highway (Highway 60), then right into Riwaka Sandy Bay Road. Follow this road all the way into Marahau. You will see a large bright yellow building ‘The Abel Tasman Centre’ on the corner of Franklin Street and the Marahau water front. Turn left here and our base is in  the second driveway on the right past this building. Abel Tasman Mountain Biking shares base with Marahau Sea Kayaks. Park your car and come see our friendly bookings team at the Abel Tasman Centre or the crew at our base.

PICK UP'S:

We offer a return bus from Nelson, through Motueka, to Marahau in conjunction with Marahau Sea Kayaks every day. It's an easy way to get here and gives you door to door service from your accommodation in Nelson or Motueka.
